Position Summary

The GraceKids Director provides leadership, discipleship vision, and weekly execution for our children’s ministry—serving families and kids from birth through 5th grade. This role champions meaningful Sunday morning ministry environments, recruits and develops volunteers, supports families in their discipleship journey, and ensures that programming, curriculum, and systems help every child learn to know, love, and follow Jesus.
The director also oversees special events and seasonal programming (including Easter, Christmas, and Summer Slam [similar to VBS]), ensures classrooms are equipped and staffed each week, and works closely with church leadership to uphold ministry excellence and safety.

Key Role

While specific in function, the heart of this ministry is shepherding the next generation—leading, loving, and guiding children and volunteers toward spiritual maturity in Christ. The GraceKids Director helps cultivate environments where kids experience the gospel clearly, relationships form meaningfully, and joy in Jesus marks every moment. This role supports parents as primary disciple-makers in their homes, ensuring our kids’ ministry aligns with the broader discipleship mission of Word of Grace.

#1: Lead & Serve the GraceKids Team

The GraceKids Director will:

  • Lead, recruit, shepherd, and develop classroom leadership team
  • Lead, recruit, and support team members serving across all GraceKids classrooms
  • Provide vision and direction to volunteer leaders and team members
  • Cultivate a healthy, collaborative ministry culture rooted in Word of Grace values
  • Ensure clarity of roles, expectations, and responsibilities
  • Ensure each classroom is properly volunteer staffed week to week
  • Provide necessary tools, resources, and training for volunteers to thrive
  • Organize consistent communication with teams and parents
  • Uphold safe ministry practices and adherence to policies

#2: Sunday Programming & Weekly Ministry Execution

The GraceKids Director will:

  • Plan and execute Sunday GraceKids gatherings for all age levels
  • Adapt and prepare curriculum (birth–5th grade) to ensure gospel-centered learning
  • Prepare weekly classroom supplies, check-in materials, and media elements
  • Teach large group lesson and lead large group teaching team
  • Ensure clean, safe, and well-organized ministry environments
  • Partner with the Operations & Pastoral staff to align ministry experience with the church’s mission and culture
  • Maintain and improve (as needed) kids ministry systems

#3: Family Discipleship & Special Events

The GraceKids Director will:

  • Support and resource families as the primary disciple-makers of their children
  • Oversee planning and implementation of seasonal events (Summer Slam,
  • Christmas, Easter, etc.)
When appropriate, oversight can purely be oversight with less hands-on support of volunteer leaders who are primarily responsible.
  • Provide simple pathways and resources that support parents in discipleship at home.
  • Partner with ministry leaders to integrate kids ministry into the life of the church

Qualifications & Competencies

  • A follower of Jesus with a love for children and families
  • Able to recruit, equip, and encourage volunteers
  • Passionate about creating engaging and spiritually formative ministry environments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized and reliable in weekly planning and execution
  • Comfortable with technology for ministry communication and media
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively with staff
  • Affirming and supportive of Word of Grace’s beliefs, mission, and leadership culture

Additional Details

  • Position: Part-Time (20 hours/week)
  • Schedule includes Sundays and a combination of weekly office/flexible hours
  • Reports to Associate Pastor
  • Compensation: Based on experience
  • Flexible schedule in a supportive, faith-driven work environment
